NASCAR Parties With Riedel Intercom In Montreal

As drivers revved their engines at the NASCAR’s Busch Series Race in Montreal, track officials communicated through state-of-the-art intercom solutions designed and manufactured by Riedel, a leading provider of radio and intercom technology for broadcast, pro-audio, event, sports and theater industries. Riedel’s Digital partyline (DPL) system solutions were used by flag station, tower control and race control members during the race in Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

The decision to utilize the advanced Riedel technology was made by Solotech Inc., an industry leader in sound, lighting, video and new media for more than 25 years. Solotech assisted NASCAR with the integration and implementation of audio equipment and recommended Riedel’s Performer C44 System Interface, Performer C3 Digital Beltpack and Performer C31 Split box for seamless communication during the race.

“We recently used Riedel equipment for the pit lanes and race control towers at the F1 races held in Montreal,” commented Eric Massicotte, Special Project Manager for Solotech Inc. “We were so pleased with the technology’s performance that there was no reason to switch for the NASCAR’s Busch Series Race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Riedel’s state-of-the-art equipment provided us with high-quality audio, was easy to use and a snap to setup.”

The Performer Series is the world’s first digital partyline intercom system, providing 2 and 4-channel master stations, rack-mount, wall-mount and desktop speaker stations as well as call light indicators and 2-channel beltback headset stations. In addition to pure partyline applications, the C44 system interface makes the Performer series the first fully integrated ’digital’ solution for combined digital matrix and partyline intercom. The C44 System Interface is a 19”/1RU unit that converts four 2-channel CAT5 matrix ports to four powered beltpack lines. For stand-alone use, the device features an integrated audio matrix.

At the race, Solotech utilized 41 Performer C3 Beltpack’s on 26,000 feet of AES/EBU digital cable. The C3 is an ergonomically shaped, fully digital 2-channel beltpack that includes popular features from conventional analog party line systems including daisy-chaining. The Beltpack has three XLR connectors, one for headset, one for signal input and one for signal loop through. The loop through XLR connector can be used as an additional analog program input. It’s completely noise-free and hum-free and provides broadcast quality audio. Extensive DSP signal processing provides perfect side tone-nulling and excellent intelligibility in applications with very high ambience levels.

During the event, seven C31 Split Box’s were also used. The C31 splits one signal input on XLR3 onto three XLR3 signal outputs. It can be powered by the C44 System Interface or with an external power supply for extra long cable runs. The use of an external power supply extends the possible length of a party-line to a maximum of 2.5 km (1.5 miles). The set up of distributed party-lines can be adjusted easily to meet any demand.
