Telefonica flows IPTV via QuStream Cheetah router
Story Highlights
Telefonica,
the largest telecommunications company in
Spain, has chosen the Cheetah XR
routing matrix for use at the head end of its Imagenio IPTV over
ADSL service. Populated with 1024 x 512 crosspoints, the Cheetah XR
is located in the fiber-optic switching centre at the company’s
Madrid
headquarters. The router was supplied and installed by QuStream’s
Spanish master distributor, Madrid-based Eurocom.
“Telefonica already has a QuStream Tiger matrix,” comments Hugo
Lopez Diaz, Key Accounts Manager at Eurocom. “It performed very
reliably, hence the decision to invest in the Cheetah XR which
combines an impressive technical specification with an accountant-
friendly price.”
“The Cheetah XR controls the switching of over 300 channels on the
Imagenio platform,” adds Karlton Burn, Vice President of Global Sales
and Marketing at the QuStream Group. “The Imagenio service was
commenced as a pilot project in
Alicante and is
gradually being
extended across
Spain.
It includes English language channels such as
CNN International and BBC World. An innovative feature enables the
viewer to switch instantly from the dubbed Spanish versions of
foreign-made programs to the original language version. This facility
is available for digital channels such as TCM, Calle 13 and Fox.”
QuStream’s Cheetah XR series is a multi-rate routing switcher system
available in two frame sizes. The 512XR can be configured with 512 x
512, 1024 x 128 or 512 x 256 crosspoints with full matrix redundancy
in 27 RU. Second, the 1024XR is configured as 1024 x 512 in 41 RU
or 1024 x 1024 in two rack frames. The Cheetah XR series’ routing
features can be enhanced by including 3500PRO control and
Viewport(TM) diagnostics. Space-saving features such as internal
conversion for HD to SDI, D to A, and fiber I/O can be added without
extra equipment or rack space requirements.
