IABM Design Awards finalists announced

The finalists for this year’s IABM Design Awards have been announced and feature a number of products already in use by sports broadcasters. The final judging and the presentation of the Peter Wayne Award takes place during IBC 2007, which starts on Friday, September 7 in Amsterdam.

The Awards, organized by the International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM), are intended to recognize outstanding design innovation in equipment designed for the broadcast industry.

A panel of independent judges selected a cross section of products to compete for this year’s top prize: the Autoscript/SysMedia Voice Plus Multilanguage auto-scrolling teleprompter; Dolby’s DP600 programme analyser, which provides both audio analysis and loudness control; the Pixel Power Pixel Promo DJ graphics system, which creates automated promo sequences for multichannel play-out; the BVM-L230 23-inch LCD master monitor from Sony, using TRIMASTER technology; and the Tektronix PQA500 picture quality analyser, which works on a number of formats, including HD.

The chief executive of the IABM, Roger Crumpton, commented, “Over 70 companies entered the IABM Awards this year, the most we have had in the history the event. The quality of the products and services entered this year is exceptional.”

The IABM Peter Wayne Award for Design and Innovation was first awarded in 1990 and named after a long-serving office of the Association. The winner of this year’s Award will be announced at a ceremony on 8th September in the Holland Restaurant at the RAI Centre.
