Ikegami’s CMOS HDTV cameras capture video from U.S. Tennis Open, NASCAR Races, and the Goodyear Blimp

As
consumers increasingly discover the thrilling “you are there” sharpness of High
Definition Television (HDTV), coverage of professional sports events is
increasingly being captured by Ikegami’s revolutionary new CMOS (Complementary
Metal Oxide Semiconductors) HDTV cameras.

Advanced
CMOS technology offering reduced power consumption, multi-format HD video
capture, and high-speed imaging capabilities is engineered into Ikegami’s new
HDK-79EC HD CMOS Camera System, which provides a full 16:9 aspect ratio and
operation in 1080/60i, 1080/24p, and 720/60p HD. Optional 50Hz formats 1080/50i
and 720/50p, high-speed dual-link 1080/60p, and (for Super Slow Motion), 720/120i
are also available. The HDK-79EC is configurable for hand-held use or “hard”
field-camera operation using the Ikegami SE-79D System Expander, which includes
a 9-inch 16:9 color LCD viewfinder (with wide viewing angle and low lag) and an
interface with HD telephoto zoom lenses. The camera has docking-style
construction, allowing easy interchange between triax and fiber adapters to
meet the cable requirements of different clients and different venues. Major
mobile television services provider F&F Productions used Ikegami’s HDK-79EC
cameras for its extensive coverage of the U.S. Open for CBS and the USA
Network.

Ikegami’s
HDL-50 Series Compact One-Piece POV cameras also deliver native Multi-Format
HDTV imaging, and are designed for mounting in inaccessible locations for
capture of dramatic action shots. Users of the HDL-50 include Robo-Vision,
which mounts the camera on its remote pan-heads for capture of “speed shots” at
auto races, and Goodyear, which has deployed an HDL-F50 on its famed Spirit of
America airship for coverage of major West Coast sporting events.

“HD
broadcast and content production professionals demand the best; their artistic
visions, careers, and livelihoods depend on it,” notes Les Kozlowski, CTO and
Founder of AltaSens, premier supplier of high-performance CMOS image sensors.
“The marriage of Ikegami’s world-class camera know-how with our CMOS imaging
System-on-Chip (iSoC) technology is pushing all performance metrics to levels
previously unachievable. CMOS iSoC delivers full Nyquist-limited resolution
throughout a broad dynamic range.”
