Thomson intros LDK8000 SportCam
Story Highlights
Thomson introduced the LDK800 SportCam during a press event at IBC,
laying the groundwork for a new era when super-slow motion capability
can be added to all cameras in an production truck’s arsenal.
“It offers two-times super slow motion recording and will make it more
widely available,|” says Jeff Rosica, senior vice president, Broadcast
and Professional Solutions for the
Grass
Valley business within
Thomson. “Pricing will be the same as a regular Worldcam camera.”
LDK 8000 Sport Cam systems already have been pre-ordered by several
major customers for use during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The
camera comes at a time when Rosica says the mobile TV markets are
maturing and the framework is in place for most European countries to
deliver HD sports content.
To that end Alfacam has selected Thomson to provide equipment like the
HD Kayak production switcher for 10 new trucks that are being
constructed for the Beijing Olympics. “We have had a long and fruitful
relationship wit Alfacam as their offices and ours in the
Netherlands
are geographic neighbors,” says Rosica.
In other Thomson news the long-awaited Infinity camcorder is expected
to be available this fall. No specific dates were available.
