SSL Features Duality Console at IBC 2007

Solid

State
Logic, a manufacturer of analogue
and digital audio consoles and provider of creative tools for music,
broadcast and post production professionals, recently featured Duality at
IBC 2007.

Since its
launch in October 2006, Duality, the large format analogue console with
integrated DAW control, has enjoyed meteoric success. With over 40 consoles
sold, Duality is the fastest selling console in SSL history. The combination of
the highest quality SuperAnalogue™ signal path & processing with integrated
DAW control, analogue 5.1 surround panning on every channel, constant visual
feedback via TFT displays and the convenience of new graphic Total Recall is
proving to be an attractive formula. The console is extremely versatile and its
ability to handle Live Entertainment Broadcast, Location Recording, Post and
Music Production is proving to be a strong commercial proposition for
facilities with a diverse workload.

Demand for
the console from Broadcasters who have expressed an interest in using Duality
in an on-air application resulted in announcement of a redundant Power Supply
option for the console at IBC. The option, which is available now, provides
complete redundancy for all power rails by providing two complete sets of the
standard Duality power supply modules, each with its own mains connection. The
DC outputs are connected via high current Schottky diodes so that failure of
one unit can not load the outputs of the other power supply. Like the standard
power supply system, all units are mounted in the rear of the console, greatly
simplifying installation.

Each 24
channel section of the console includes its own redundant PSU system, providing
a cost effective and scalable solution. The console center section is powered
from the channel bay immediately to its left. Each section includes a D-sub
connector providing status monitoring of each power rail as an open collector
signal plus ‘Power Good’ changeover relay contacts which are activated if any
power rail in the section

fails. Individual power good LEDs are fitted to the rear of the console to
assist in fault diagnosis. A flashing LED indicator is provided on the center
section meter panel to provide an immediate console wide fault indication to
the operator.

The first
client to order Duality with full Redundant Power supply is Korean Broadcast
Service who expect to receive their 72 Channel console with internal Patch
Option also fitted at the end of Sept 2007. KBS is the Korean national
broadcaster and the console is to be installed into a new facility to be used for
live entertainment broadcast & recording.
