Mike Milbury Joins NHL on TSN as Studio Analyst

Veteran
NHL player, coach and GM Mike Milbury already has one of the more diverse resum s
in hockey. Now he can add another title. TSN today announced
Milbury is joining the NHL on TSN broadcast team as a studio analyst, marking
his debut as an analyst on Canadian television.

Milbury
will appear weekly during the marquee NHL on TSN: Wednesday Night Hockey
throughout the regular season and frequently during the first two rounds of the
Stanley Cup Playoffs . Milbury makes his TSN debut on September 28 during the NHL
on TSN Fantasy Draft Special.

“Mike
has a reputation for being one of the most entertaining characters in the world
of hockey,” said Mark Milliere, Vice-President, News & NHL on
TSN. “He’s controversial and quotable, and will bring a wealth of
experience and knowledge about the game to our broadcasts.”

“I’ve
appeared on TSN numerous times for my antics as a player, coach and GM, but
this time around will be an entirely different experience,” said
Milbury. “I’m really excited about the opportunity to interact with
such a talented broadcast team, while offering my insights on the NHL to
Canadian viewers, who are without a doubt the most passionate hockey fans in
the world.”

Milbury
will work in the NHL on TSN studio alongside host James Duthie, analyst Glenn
Healy, Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger, and commentator Dave
Hodge. In addition to his work at TSN, Milbury will also work alongside
TSN’s Pierre McGuire this season as a studio analyst for NBC’s coverage of the
NHL, as well as on NESN’s coverage of the Boston Bruins. Milbury’s prior
TV work has included stints as a weekend sports anchor for SportsChannel New
England while he was still playing for the Bruins, and as an ESPN analyst
during the NHL lockout in 1994/95.

Milbury,
who never shies away from the media spotlight and has provided more than his
fair share of memorable quotes, once described himself as follows:
“I’m a 1978

Toyota
with 86,000 miles on it, rust spots, and a hole in the floorboard, but hey, I
start every morning.”

Milbury
played 12 seasons as a defenceman with the Boston Bruins before retiring after
the 1986/87 campaign. During his tenure as a player, Milbury, who was the
Bruins’ player rep, spearheaded the first movement against then NHLPA Executive
Director Alan Eagleson, marking the first time a player had questioned
Eagleson’s unethical conduct.

A native
of
Brighton,
Mass.,
Milbury was named Head Coach of the Bruins in 1989/90 and his squad finished
with the league’s best record, before ultimately losing to

Edmonton in the Stanley Cup final.
Following his time in

Boston,
Milbury spent 12 seasons with the NY Islanders, where he held three separate
stints as Head Coach and spent 11 years as General Manager. Last season,
Milbury was the Islanders’ Senior Vice-President, before leaving the
organization this past May.
