Before the First Pitch is Thrown, Verizon is Game-Ready

With the
umpire ready to shout “Play ball!,” Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the
nation’s most reliable wireless voice and data network, is ready for all the
action at Coors Field in Denver and Fenway Park in Boston.

“During
this season’s series, fans and members of the news media from around the
country rely on their wireless handsets to keep in touch with family, friends
and colleagues — not only for calls, but also using Verizon Wireless Text,
Picture and Video Message services,” said Melanie Braidich, regional president,
Verizon Wireless. “Our network is prepared to handle the expected increased
activity throughout the baseball series both here at home and in

Boston.”

During the
NLCS games in

Denver,
Verizon Wireless experienced up to 12 times the usual volume on its network in
the downtown area. To make sure the network remains game-ready in the

Mile

High

City, the company has
made the following enhancements:

Added two
new cell sites earlier this year to improve coverage and capacity along the

16th Street Mall
and near the

Pepsi

Center sports complex

Augmented
capacity to existing sites that serve Coors Field and the surrounding area

Enhanced
in-building coverage at several hotels in the downtown area for visiting
baseball fans and customers

In

Boston, Verizon Wireless increased its network capacity by
activating a temporary cell site at

Fenway

Park. The Cell on Wheels
(or COW) is a mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity – allowing more
customers to concurrently place calls, exchange text and picture messages, and
download multimedia content.
