Iowa Public TV adds two SSL C100 HD consoles

Iowa
Public TV, Iowa’s statewide public broadcasting network providing more than one
million viewers with entertainment, has acquired two Solid State Logic C100 HD
Digital Broadcast Consoles for production on hit shows including Iowa Press and
Market to Market. Iowa Public TV expects to go live with the C100s by the end
of the year.

“We are
redesigning our existing studios for HD production and needed a console that
could handle that level of production along with 5.1 surround — the C100 met
our requirements perfectly,” notes Director of Engineering and Technology for
Iowa Public TV William Hayes.

“One of
the units will be used in our control room for live to tape, while the other
unit will be used in our auditorium for recording.

“What we
really liked about the C100 was its direct interface capability with ProTools™,
which enables our engineers to sit at the console rather than their computer
and work with ProTools to create the 5.1 surround mix,” Hayes continues.

“Our audio production team was enamored with
how much easier this was going to make life for them.”

The C100
HD installation includes SSL’s MORSE (Modular Resource Sharing Engine) system,
allowing the console to access remote mic inputs via fiber from either of

Iowa’s two studios.

This feature was critical for Iowa Public TV,
offering greater efficiency by enabling production team members to work on
projects in either studio.

“Employing
two C100s allows our operators to go from one console to the next without
skipping a beat,” Hayes remarks.

“Our
engineers don’t have to learn different operations, as they can work in either
room and easily understand the functionalities.

This is extremely valuable in streamlining production efforts.”
