Contec Innovations Brings Mobile Sports Content Offering to African Market

Contec
Innovations, and Umliba, a South African mobile content and media specialist
provider, announced they will jointly provide African mobile users with mobile
soccer channels for the Barclays English Premiership League (EPL), the South
African Premier Soccer League (PSL), other major global soccer leagues and
competitions, as well as channels for rugby, cricket, Formula One and other
sports.

“The
marketplace is looking for out-of-the box solutions – and the opportunity is
here to combine world leading sports content and Contec’s mobile publishing
service to deliver mobile services to African operators and consumers
immediately,” said Patrick Kuwana, Umliba’s CEO and also Director of PA
Sport South Africa. He added: “Sports content is extremely popular in
Africa and we’re looking forward to meeting demand from
mobile operators and media companies as well as sponsors and advertisers.”

Don Lay,
President and CEO of Contec added: ”
Africa’s
poor fixed line infrastructure has hampered the adoption of the Internet as
evidenced by a penetration rate of less than five percent. By contrast, the
African mobile market has been growing at 50-60% annually with projections to
reach over 415 million subscribers by 2012. We are delighted to be enabling a
series of engaging mobile content channels to feed this demanding mobile web
audience.” Mobile operators, sponsors and partners can choose which sports
and league bundles to deliver to their mobile end users. Additional mobile
offerings will include entertainment channels, chat and instant messaging (IM)
services as well as mobile video and content downloads.

Umliba is
providing local marketing and support while Contec is delivering the service
infrastructure and ongoing technical operations.

The new
turnkey sports mobile channel offering will be demonstrated at the 3GSM Africa
conference in

Cape Town,
South Africa on November 21-22,
2007.
