MRC helps Fox Sports with Wireless World Series

Fox Sports World Series and ALCS coverage made use of Microwave Radio Communications’ Link High Definition (HD) Wireless Diversity camera system. The Link HD Wireless Diversity system provided true HD transmission without down/up conversion, complete freedom of camera movement, and elimination of the latency issues often found in competing systems. FOX-TV production crews could inter-cut camera shots seamlessly with no vision or sound delay problems.

CP Communications provided the Link HD wireless camera systems to FOX for use with Thomson LDK6000 camera heads and OCP400 camera controls panels. Kurt Heitmann, VP of Marketing at CP Communications says the Link HD wireless camera systems performed flawlessly. “By utilizing the Thomson Operators Control Panel system with the Link data transmitters, we get full paint and control including scene files for the LDK6000.,” he says. “This provides complete control – not just iris and pedestal; and reds, greens and blues.”

Jerry Steinberg, Fox Television VP of Production states, “Fox has no control over the games other than putting on the best production we can, and we do a pretty good job of that. It takes a collaboration of the best people, vendors, equipment and a lot of team work to get it done. You have to rely on the best technology when you are broadcasting the World Series. There are no second chances.”

The Link HD Wireless Diversity camera system was also used for airborne coverage of the ALCS and World Series games, with the Lightship Group from Orlando, Florida broadcasting live aerial coverage. Toby Page, Director of Marketing at Lightship, stated “The Link HD Wireless Diversity system exceeded our expectations. We’ve been operating for years in standard definition, and our migration to HD using MRC Link technology has been trouble free. I now focus on capturing the action, not communicating the action.”
