LRSSports, 3D MVP intro bring coaching software into the next dimension

Three-dimensional graphics continue to alter the coaching analysis landscape with LRSSports and 3D MVP being the latest to give coaches and players the ability to dive into a virtual 3D environment that moves beyond simple Xs and Os. LRSSports has integrated 3D MVP Play Visualizer software into its Ultima football coaching station with Presentation Manager. The system allows coaches to build field-level animation of an opponent’s plays.
The goal is to help a coaching staff better prepare their team by enabling them to show their players in 3D the exact formations, routes, fronts and coverages they will see on the field. Coaches can then more effectively teach the players strategy using what closely resembles a three-dimensional video game format.
Chad Brown, LRSSports NFL and college account supervisor, says that the Baltimore Ravens are currently using the system and it is available now. Pricing is still to be determined.
“The difference between this system and others is that everything is built by the coach, there is no artificial intelligence or pre-built plays like 3-4 or 4-3 defensive schemes,” adds Brown. “And that’s important because every team will play a hybrid of a defense rather than a straight 3-4 or 4-3. Maybe the strong safety is not in his regular position.”
The system can incorporate PowerPoint slides as well as bit map files and photos, translating them into a virtual 3D environment without the need to go outside of the coaching application.
“Coaches can now teach from views that coaches have never been able to teach from before,” says Brown. “With the click of the mouse they can circle the field from above, move down to the left tackle and even inside a player’s helmet.”
