World Juniors Opener on TSN Peaks at 1.2 Million Viewers

TSN’s
opening game coverage from the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship on December
26 featuring Canada vs. Czech Republic delivered a national average audience of
1,032,000 viewers, making it TSN’s fourth most-watched opening game from the
World Juniors.

Audience
levels peaked at 1.2 million viewers from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET toward the end
of

Canada’s
3-0 victory. The results were made available today by BBM Nielsen Media
Research.

On TSN.ca,
where all Team Canada and medal round games are shown live, the opening game
attracted 17,000 unique visitors, marking a six per cent increase over last
year’s live coverage of Game 1 on TSN.ca.

A total of
22 World Junior broadcasts on TSN have now topped more than 1 million viewers,
the largest being the 2003 Gold Medal Game in Halifax with 3.45 million viewers
– the biggest audience in network history. TSN has been televising the
World Juniors since 1991, and eight of the Top 10 programs of all-time on TSN
are World Junior broadcasts.

TSN’s
coverage of the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship continues tomorrow (Dec.
29) with a double-header featuring
Slovakia
vs.
Czech Republic at 10
a.m. ET, followed by
Canada
vs.

Sweden
