SSL names Simon Jacobs product Specialist

Solid
State Logic, a manufacturer
of analogue and digital audio consoles and provider of creative tools for music,
broadcast and post production professionals, is pleased to announce the
appointment of Simon Jacobs to the position of product specialist.

Simon is specializing in the MediaWAN technology platform,
SSL’s recent expansion encompassing all aspects of digital video and storage
technologies. MediaWAN Gravity is a complete, scalable broadcast production
system that utilizes a suite of specially designed applications running on
standard high-performance PCs and servers.

Simon brings over 21 years of broadcast experience to SSL.
Most recently, he was responsible for designing and running an international
training program for the broadcast video and data storage products of SeaChange
International. Prior to that position, he served as a freelance editor and trainer
for Quantel. Simon’s professional experience also includes time as a freelance
editing product specialist for Pinnacle Systems.

“I feel honored to be working for a company that I have
admired for so long,” Simon comments. “After I left school, my first job
was working for a recording studio in
London,
and since then I have always admired SSL’s technology and position in the
professional audio market. I am very excited to be joining SSL at this
important stage in MediaWAN’s development, and I am thrilled to be involved in
this new area of SSL’s business.”

Geared to the fast-moving, multi-format nature of today’s
media operations, the software allows encoders to import video from a variety
of sources including HD, provides a preview and job allocation interface for
production co-ordinators, editing software for journalists and management tools
for news producers. An asset management database and user interface also
provide for seamless information lifecycle management in the video domain.

MediaWAN Backhaul allows media networks to install encoders
at remote locations and automatically ingest video and audio content to central
servers where it is immediately available for use. The system operates over a
private MPLS network that provides a very high QoS and highly efficient use of
the bandwidth enabling broadcast-resolution video to be delivered at a fraction
of the cost of traditional satellite transmission. The system operates at very
low latency, which significantly improves the performance of the circuit for
remote interviews.

Simon joins a recently expanded MediaWAN team at Solid State
Logic, which includes Peter Wood, sales manager, EMEA and Jerry Berger,
sales manager Americas. Tuviah Snyder will be lead programmer and Jeffrey
Herr will be the hardware evaluation engineer.

Previewed at NAB in 2006, Solid State Logic’s MediaWAN
project has been under development for three years. SSL has assembled a team of
highly experienced designers, including developers of leading newsroom content
management systems currently in use. Collectively, the team has developed
products that have won three Emmys and an Oscar in this field.
