Globecast plays key role in Asian sporting events

GlobeCast is managing contribution and delivery of three major sport events in Asia, with the launch of the IPL Twenty20 cricket league, followed by the Beijing Summer Games and Singapore’s first F1 Night Race.

GlobeCast has been selected as the content delivery partner for Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20, bringing matches via its satellite and latest-generation fiber network to audiences in Asia, Europe, Australia, South Africa and USA. The deal comprises coverage of 59 matches spread over 44 days, from 18 April to 1 June.

GlobeCast is providing all signal distribution from the event venues, including delivery of the world feed for World Sport Group via the Asiasat 2 satellite and onward delivery via fiber link to London. GlobeCast is also coordinating the equipment, satellite capacity and staffing to make this worldwide distribution a
success.

And in August, for the Beijing Games, GlobeCast will provide both SD and HD-ready satellite services and multiple uplinks for Rights-Holding Broadcasters (RHBs). This includes the world feed for Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)’s sport pool, which comprises Asian terrestrial broadcasters and cable operators, multiple unilateral feeds for ATV-Hong Kong, I-Cable-Hong Kong, Solar Entertainment-Philippines, as well as TV Globo-Brazil and ESPN-USA.

GlobeCast will also offer live standup positions, playout and other facilities in Beijing to non Rights-Holding Broadcasters (non-RHBs) and news agencies worldwide.

Finally, a month later in September, all eyes will be on Singapore when the Formula 1 Grand Prix arrives on its shores. GlobeCast will provide HD-ready flyaways and mobile MCRs, as well as on-site production and distribution services to allow international broadcasters to cover this historic night race in its entirety for audiences worldwide.
