NVISION Supplies Router Systems for Telegenic’s HD Truck

Telegenic (UK)
chose NVISION’s new NV8576 Large-Matrix Digital Multi-Format Router when designing its newest 16.5-meter (54 feet) T16
triple-expanding video production truck with 25 HD cameras. The NV8576 can easily handle Telegenic’s requirement for 333
inputs and 666 outputs.
The NV8576 digital routing formats include 3Gb/s HD/SDI, SD/SDI, AES. Telegenic,
located in High Wycombe, UK, is a provider of outside broadcast (OB) video
production trucks, specializing in the coverage of sports, music, business and
general live-entertainment events within the UK, as well as Europe, Africa, and
Asia. The sale of the NV8576 to Telegenic was made through NVISION’s global
partner, AXON (Gilze, The Netherlands), a developer and supplier of modular
broadcast systems.

The sale to Telegenic also included several of AXON’s
Synapse module cards up-converters, down-converters, synchronizers, AES DAs,
Video DAs, embedders, de-embedders, Dolby-E decoders and an NVISION NV7512
Audio Router.

The truck has just recently returned from the Euro UEFA 2008
Football Tournament in Switzerland,
working as the host broadcaster for UEFA in Basel
and
Zurich.
Upcoming events for this truck include the Guinness Premiership Rugby, Heineken
European Cup Rugby, Barclays Premier League Football for BSkyB, and a George
Michael concert in
London.
Sean Mulhern, Head Engineer at Telegenic, states, “This
truck is designed for high-end sports productions, which require the highest
levels of reliability and quality signal transmission. For a previous truck
build, we had a very positive out-of-the-box experience with NVISION’s compact,
ultra-high density NV8288 Digital Video Router and AXON’s Synapse products, but
now we needed more ins and outs. The new NV8576 has doubled in both input and
output capacity but remains remarkably compact at only three times the size of
the NV8288 frame, while including four times the number of crosspoints, not including
the redundant crosspoint slots. By using the larger routing system with more
crosspoints, we can simplify the system infrastructure within the truck,
eliminating the need for costly and space-consuming jackfield (patch) hardware.
The crosspoints also ensure high-reliability routing, which is a key factor for
our customers. And again, we had another easy out-of-the-box experience –
it was flawless with the router working at full capacity.”
“We were first
to use the NV8288, and now we’re the first to use the NV8576,” says Mike
Spencer, Technical Director at Telegenic. “We’re also ready for market changes
with 3 Gb/s routing. There’s a reasonable probability that the acquisition
market will begin 3Gig production in the near future, so it makes sense to
build a truck that handles 3Gig at the core. We’re ready to go while the rest
of the industry catches up.
