Screen Provides Captioning Systems to Television New Zealand

Screen Subtitling Systems have supplied captioning solutions to
Television New Zealand to support captioning
across its SD and HD services on the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT)
platform.
Television New Zealand has acquired from
Screen a Polistream system comprising two P5000s, three P4000s and two
A4002s. The Screen equipment transcodes
Teletext captions into DVB subtitles for the TVOne and TV2 HD services on DTT.
In order to fulfil TVNZ’s specific requirements
Screen has designed the system to output data directly over UDP rather than
using the more traditional ASI stream.
TVNZ, New Zealand’s largest free-to-air
broadcaster, operates five channels on the DTT Freeview platform (TVOne and TV2
in HD, plus the three digital-only channels, TVNZ 6, TVNZ 7, Sport Extra in SD).
Programming is broadcast to viewers within four
regions: Auckland, Waikato, Wellington
and South Island. Using their Freeview set-top box or
Integrated Digital Television, viewers are able to view captioning/subtitling
on all TVNZ services, whether SD or HD.
