Token Creek Selects Calrec Omega Console for HD Upgrade of Hiawatha OB Truck

Calrec Audio has announced that Token Creek Mobile Television is
installing a 56-fader Calrec Omega console in its Hiawatha OB truck,
which is being upgraded to all-HD operation. Hiawatha’s sister truck,
Varsity, already carries a Calrec Sigma with Bluefin console, which was
purchased in 2007.

“More and more clients are demanding HD,” says Steve Sontag, Token
Creek engineer. “We are a small company, but even with a small budget,
we try to stay ahead of the competition. We were able to do that with
the affordable and powerful Calrec console. Clients recognize that it
signifies high quality, and it’s no exaggeration to say it helps us
sell the truck.”

One of the reasons Calrec consoles are so popular in OB trucks is
because the company’s exclusive Bluefin High Density Signal Processing
provides the power and flexibility to configure complex shows in a
compact footprint. The Omega, positioned between the Sigma and Zeta
desks, features 160 channel-processing paths packaged as 48 stereo plus
64 mono channels, allowing up to 24 x full 5.1 surround channels. Omega
also features Calrec’s unique TFT metering capabilities, sited across
the meter bridge to offer maximum control of the assignable system with
no sacrifice of accessibility.

Based near Madison, Wis., Token Creek Mobile Television operates a
fleet of three remote broadcasting units deployed to cover sports and
entertainment productions nationwide. Hiawatha is a 53-foot
straight-sided truck, built as an SDI unit four years ago with an
eventual upgrade to HD factored into the design. Work on the HD
refurbishment began at Token Creek’s own shop in June and was completed
on schedule in August. The upgraded Hiawatha truck is set to see its
first action in Green Bay, Wis., broadcasting a preseason NFL game
between the hometown Packers and the Tennessee Titans.
