University of Oklahoma and Pittsburg State upgrade Scoreboards with Daktronics

The
University
of
Oklahoma and
Pittsburg
State
added new Daktronics scoreboards this year. The
University of
Oklahoma
introduced their fans on August 30 a new end zone scoreboard measuring
approximately 32 feet high by 166 feet wide, equipped with Daktronics’ latest HD-X
LED video technology.
“We have heard nothing
but positive feedback from our fans on the clarity and picture quality of our
new LED boards,” said Brandon Meier, executive director of video production,
University of
Oklahoma. “The new HD-16 technology
and our new HD video control room have made a huge difference in our game
atmosphere and our ability to entertain and inform our fans.”
“The new board is not
just a videoboard,” Meier said. “We now have much more flexibility to use a
variety of different display modes. We use full screen video, two-thirds
video and true HD 16×9 throughout the game depending on the situation.”
In addition, two new
sideline ribbon boards, each more than 300 feet long, keep fans informed and
entertained while recognizing corporate partners. “The fascia boards have made
a huge impact on the atmosphere of our games,” Meier said. “Our fans
really react to our in-game situational animations and it’s nice to have
out-of-town scores and team and player statistics displayed throughout the
entire game.”
Perennial Division II
football powerhouse
Pittsburg
State followed suit this
fall with a new high resolution video board. The new design of the main
scoreboard is a trend more schools are following. There are no fixed digit
sections dedicated to showing scores and times on the Gorilla’s new
“JungleTron”. Their new scoreboard is a fully digital canvas, on which the
scores, game times, stats, graphics and video can be programmed and displayed
to show in any area, in any size, in any color, on the screen.
“This new video display
is an exciting enhancement not only for our football team and for our games,
but also for the total game-day atmosphere at
Pittsburg
State
University, which remains
second-to-none,” said Pitt State Athletic Director Chuck Broyles. “This project
will benefit not only our football program, but our track and field program as
well. Other university departments and organizations as well as additional
outside events will benefit from its use.”
Pittsburg
State
also upgraded its sound system in
the football stadium, opting for a new Sportsound 2000 system developed by
Daktronics to provide high quality audio to complement the high resolution
video system.
