Mega Hertz orders WEGENER Unity 4600 Satellite Receivers

Mega
Hertz has placed an order for WEGENER Unity 4600 professional satellite
receivers totaling over $800,000. Mega Hertz is WEGENER’s exclusive distributor
of cable industry-related products such as the HD capable Unity 4600 satellite
receiver and DTV digital signal processors to
U.S. cable systems.
Due to
begin shipments during the first quarter of 2009,
the newly released Unity 4600 satellite receiver will include a new standard
feature — DVB-S2 demodulation support, while still maintaining backward
compatibility with DVB-S demodulation. With its advanced coding and variety of
Forward Error Correction options, DVB-S2 modulation offers broadcasters a wide
range of choices to manage inclement weather, satellite service provider
limitations, lower operational costs or increase service (when compared with
DVB-S). For example, the bandwidth needs of a typical transmission can be
reduced by 20 to 30% by switching from DVB-S to DVB-S2.
The Unity
4600 receivers that are ordered support both encrypted HD cable programming
services and unencrypted programming. WEGENER’s Unity 4600 offers built-in
analog and DVB ASI digital outputs and two stereo audio pairs in both MPEG
layer 2 and Dolby Digital formats. When controlled by WEGENER’s COMPEL
network control system the Unity 4600 satellite receiver looks at the incoming
program stream and decrypts and passes only those streams authorized for that
receiver as a digital ASI output.
“WEGENER
and Mega Hertz have maintained a strong, mutually beneficial relationship for
over two decades,” said
Ned
L. Mountain,
President and COO of WEGENER. “We are extremely pleased that Mega Hertz demonstrates
continued confidence in our reliable, high-quality products, such as the Unity
4600 satellite receiver, which Mega Hertz provides to the cable television
industry through its established nationwide sales network.”
