Linear Acoustic President Tim Carroll to Speak on ‘DTV Audio Myths’ Panel at 125th AES Convention

Linear
Acoustic president and founder Tim Carroll will be speaking on the “DTV
Audio Myths” panel on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 9:00 a.m. at the 125th Audio
Engineering Society (AES) convention, to be held Oct. 2-5 at San
Francisco’s
Moscone
Center.
This
year, the convention features the “DTV Audio Myths” panel to attempt
to bring logic and balance to the confusion created by the multitude of audio
options in DTV.
As a
panelist, Carroll will discuss common misconceptions about the role of audio
processing as broadcast stations make the DTV transition. Among the myths he
will address are the notions that DTV audio processing is unnecessary, that
outdated radio equipment or recording studio gear can meet the needs of DTV,
and that many different boxes are required to handle audio, metadata, and
encoding.
“It
is an honor to be given this opportunity to speak at AES and to help clear up some of
the misconceptions about audio processing,” said Carroll. “As
broadcasters make the DTV transition, they are discovering that simply
addressing loudness issues is not enough to maintain a satisfied viewer base.
The purpose of this panel is to show that achieving quality DTV audio requires
effective and efficient processing solutions to handle all key aspects of
audio, and that these solutions are available and can fit easily into
broadcasting operations.”
