MIRA Mobile TV Chooses QuStream Integrity and Cheetah

QuStream Corporation has
received a major order from MIRA Mobile Television for Cheetah routing and
Integrity signal-processing equipment. “M7HD will be the seventh truck in
our fleet but the first built around QuStream’s routing and signal-processing
technology”, says Bill Duncan, MIRA’s Director of Engineering.
“Given QuStream’s presence in the majority of major-company production
trucks on the road and their commitment to customer satisfaction, we felt
confident that using their gear will provide M7HD with the highest-quality
infrastructure of any HD truck available”.
MIRA Mobile’s routing
system is anchored by the Cheetah 288XE HD/3G digital-video router and the
Cheetah DRS distributed audio systems. Populated with an active matrix of
288 inputs and 576 outputs, the Cheetah 288XE video router provides the central
backbone for all SD/HD routing today and 1080P routing tomorrow with its 3G
capability. Complimenting the sophisticated 288XE is the Cheetah
DRS distributed audio routing Configured for 256 AES and 256 analog
in and out, the innovative Cheetah DRS provides a complete paradigm shift in
audio-routing architecture.
“The Cheetah DRS
allows for our audio routing to be distributed throughout the truck in multiple
1ru I/O modules, says
Duncan.
Gone are the days when we had to homerun hundreds of audio cables back and
forth throughout the truck – now we interconnect everything via redundant Cat-5
cable. The space, weight and power savings are phenomenal. We anticipate
using this technology in interfacing mobile units together using the fiber
interconnect as well.”
Completing M7’s
state-of-the art infrastructure is QuStream’s Integrity series of signal
processing technology. The 600-series includes down-converting DA’s and
the 500-Series provides the truck’s up/down/cross conversion with side-column
keyers. QuStream QuadraComb™ NTSC/SDI decoders and 1×15 and dual 1×3 DA’s
round out the system.
“This is the latest
in a series of recent orders from the mobile-broadcast sector,” adds
Karlton Burn, QuStream’s Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing.
“The Cheetah and DRS product ranges combine the compactness and
versatility increasingly demanded both for OBs and studio installations. Add in
the 3 gigabit/s capability of Cheetah and it is evident that we have a range of
routers that can justifiably be termed future-proof.”
