Comcast SportsNet Chicago Rooting for Cubs, Sox

By Andrew Lippe

With both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox in the MLB playoffs for the first time in 100 years, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, home to both teams, is running double time to keep up with the teams. “We want to be a destination for post-game coverage,” says Greg Bowman, senior programming director of CSN Chicago. The question now is how long the Cubs and White Sox can give fans the chance to tune in.
The network is offering a half-hour pre-game show prior to each playoff game, with reporters at the games reporting via Sony DNW-9WS Betacam SX camcorders. The studio side of the coverage is produced at the Comcast SportsNet Chicago studio and makes use of four Sony HDC-1400 cameras, a Sony MVS-8000G production switcher, Chyron Duet graphics, and Thomson Grass Valley Edius nonlinear editing systems.
“This is the most exciting time in Chicago sports in many years,” says Jeff Nuich, senior director of communications for Comcast SportsNet.
