Reiss Joins Comcast SportsNet Bay Area as Anchor and Reporter

Comcast SportsNet Bay Area has hired Scott Reiss as an anchor and reporter for the regional sports network featuring the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Golden State Warriors, San Jose Sharks, San Jose SaberCats, and San Jose Earthquakes.
Initially, Reiss will serve as a host for Sharks Pregame Live and Sharks Postgame Live and will also provide preview, halftime, and wrap-up analysis for Warriors telecasts. Next spring, when Comcast SportsNet Bay Area expands its schedule of original programming, including introduction of Northern California’s only live daily sports news and talk programs, Reiss will serve as the main anchor and reporter. Show titles and additional hosts will be announced at a later date, along with a detailed programming schedule.
Chris Olivere, news director, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, says, “We are delighted to welcome Scott back to Northern California, where he began his sports-reporting career as a
Stanford University student doing the play-by-play for the Cardinals’ baseball and men’s basketball teams for the school’s radio station. He has established himself as one of the most versatile sports anchors and reporters in the business today. Scott’s experience and array of skills will enhance the depth of our on-air lineup as we prepare to launch daily news and sports talk programs next spring. I am confident that Bay Area sports fans will appreciate the knowledge and enthusiasm he will bring to the local sports scene.”
Says Ted Griggs, VP/GM, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, “Sports fans will recognize Scott from his extensive broadcast work. However, equally important to us was Scott’s familiarity with the Bay Area sports landscape. His years as a student at Stanford and as a local broadcaster give him authentic knowledge of the local sports scene that will be critical as we launch the most comprehensive local sports news in Northern California next spring.”
Reiss says, “I am thrilled to be joining a great organization in a region with such incredible sports tradition. I’ve spent some of the best years of my life in the Bay Area, and to have the opportunity to return in this role, helping to build the foundation for a new product, it’s a perfect fit for me, both professionally and personally.”
Reiss comes to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area after spending eight years at ESPN, where he began in September 2000 as an anchor for ESPNEWS. He subsequently filled numerous roles for the network as host of Baseball Tonight, College GameNight, and SportsCenter. In addition, he was a fill-in host for College Football Live and NFL Live and hosted ESPN Radio College Gameday. His play-by-play duties included college basketball and football for ESPN and ESPN Radio.
Before joining ESPN, Reiss worked as a sports and news anchor and reporter at WUTR-TV Utica, NY, from 1995 to 1997 and was sports director at KCOY-TV Santa Maria, CA, from 1997 to 2000.
Born in Chicago and reared in Los Angeles, Reiss graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1993 and a master’s in sociology in 1994.
