Rinkside View Returns to FSN West and Prime Ticket

Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket will provide a “Rinkside View” presentation of all HD Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings game telecasts. The format offers more ice access, thanks to low-angle camera positions and an as-if-you-were-there look and feel to the telecast. A total of 20 NHL games will be seen by the Rinkside View.
“We are revolutionizing hockey on television with Rinkside View. The low camera angles and evolved camera direction will allow the viewers to hear more crunch, watch more of the ice, and, instead of being told how the play develops, see the play unfold for themselves,” says Tom Feuer, executive producer, Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket.
Ten camera angles combine to provide Rinkside View unprecedented access to the plays and the players. All cameras are positioned low and around the perimeter of the rink. Three are in fixed positions and robotic, which allows the director to pan the arena and capture wide, sweeping shots. Inertia X-mo will have a completely new look this season, because the slow-motion camera will be run through the center ice robotic camera. Three handheld cameras will be run by operators, who can roam the perimeter of the ice and capture fan reaction and arena shots. And point-of-view cameras will provide insider access to the players in the penalty boxes and other locations.
Unlike the previous Rinkside View presentation of hockey on West and Prime Ticket, NHL HD game telecasts on the regional sports networks in 2008-09 will feature a single telecast of the game, not a side-by-side presentation. Therefore, Rinkside View will include the home-team broadcasters, as well as the Fox Box graphic, which provides up-to-the-minute game statistics.
