The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution in support of a $2 billion plan to build thousands of homes and a new football stadium in San Francisco. Voters approved a redevelopment plan for Candlestick Point and Hunters Point Shipyard that is designed to bring 7,500 permanent jobs, 10,500 homes, and 300 acres of parks and open space to the area, along with a new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers in Hunters Point Shipyard.
…Homebuilder Lennar Corp. said the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a resolution supporting a $2 billion plan to build thousands of homes and a new football stadium, to which Lennar would contribute up to $600 million. Lennar said this week that the board had passed a resolution backing the plan, which would be the city’s largest redevelopment since World War II…
…With the Florida Marlins locked in a legal battle that appears to have been resolved as of this week, the planned date for opening their $515 million stadium at the current site of the Orange Bowl in Little Havana will have to wait a bit longer. Marlins President David Samson announced today that, due to legal wrangling with South Florida auto dealer Norman Braman, the project now has a 2012 completion date…
…Plans to build long-awaited public sports fields in the shadow of San Jose State University’s Spartan Stadium — a project pitched as a team effort between the university and the city of San Jose, CA — have come apart after school officials decided that sharing the new facilities would be too difficult. The project would have marked the second major collaboration between the city and San Jose State, following the opening of downtown’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library in 2003…
…The Kansas-Missouri college-football game will continue to be played at Arrowhead Stadium through the 2012 season, the Kansas City Star reported. Missouri, Kansas, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission announced the extension Thursday. Both schools had said they needed the revenue from playing at least six games on their own campus before agreeing to this deal. In games on campus, visiting teams don’t receive revenue. Last year’s game at Arrowhead earned approximately $1.3 million for each school…
…The City of Albuquerque is having a tough time trying to sell the idea of a downtown arena. Now the state of New Mexico is pushing to build a new arena at the fairgrounds. Gov. Bill Richardson recently announced that he would like to tear down the racetrack and possibly Tingley Coliseum and replace them with a $25 million-$30 million equestrian center, which would include a 6,000-seat indoor arena…
…An upstart professional football league has chosen a site in Casa Grande, AZ, for a $20 million training facility that will serve three of the league’s six original teams. The United Football League plans to break ground on the training site next to the Francisco Grande Hotel & Golf Resort in January. League officials said they plan to build eight playing fields, four field houses, locker rooms, a training and rehabilitation center, office space and other amenities…
…A phalanx of construction workers is jamming to put the finishing touches on a $24 million addition to the civic center in Rapid City, SD, which also includes home ice for the city’s newest pro-sports franchise, the Rapid City Rush of the Central Hockey League.
