Strategic Television/PSSI Delivers Golden Globes to the World

On Jan. 11, a night of celebration and
celebrity was enjoyed in the U.S. and abroad with the help of Strategic
Television and PSSI Global Services. The 66th Annual Golden Globe
Awards ceremony was broadcast live from The
Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills,
CA, with Strategic Television
providing high-definition satellite and fiber paths directly to NBC New York
for distribution on NBC’s HD and SD networks.

This distribution was
accomplished using diverse redundant Tandberg encoders in a 40-Mbps data
stream, which included both Dolby E 5.1 and stereo audio. In addition to the
global delivery of the SD show, for the first time, Strategic delivered an HD
multilateral to Europe for European
broadcasters that licensed the broadcast in HD. Strategic, using Intelsat’s
teleport and space-segment infrastructure, arranged an 8-PSK modulated satellite
path under the DVB-S2 standard, with frame-rate conversion from 60i to 50i.

British Sky Broadcasting had
a substantial presence on the red carpet, airing a live arrivals special in HD.
A Tandberg-encoded data stream was delivered by ASI over a 270-Mbps fiber from
The Beverly Hilton live to Sky’s point-of-presence at PacTV in Los Angeles. For the HD
satellite path, PSSI uplinked a DVB-S2 8-PSK 40-Mbps data stream in 18 MHz of
satellite bandwidth, turned around by TV2GO in Toronto.

Finally, Strategic/PSSI
managed and executed HD fiber pathways for E! Network. In addition to the HD-network backhaul, Strategic also delivered a 270-Mbps six-camera multiplex, enabling
E! to iso and switch sources back at the network.

Major networks, production
companies, and engineering management require innovatively designed and
flawlessly executed transmission services, and Strategic Television/PSSI has been, and continues to be, a cooperative partner on major live
entertainment events.
