Yankee Clipper Follows Up Inauguration in Super Style

Game Creek’s Yankee Clipper has had a busy two weeks, playing a key role in the pool coverage of President Barack Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 21 and now helping ESPN deliver a week’s worth of Super Bowl hype to viewers all week long.

“Once we’re done here, it will be right back to the grind,” says Game Creek Truck Engineer Bruce Kerrigan. The truck arrived from Washington the day after the inauguration and was set up for ESPN by Thursday.

Aiding with ESPN’s coverage are NMT’s SBS3 and NEP’s ST43, the latter handling transmission. “We have 10 transmission paths, seven plus three backups,” says Kerrigan. “There are also seven receive paths.”

Temperatures this weekend are expected to dip into the low 60s, but, after working the inauguration for more than 10 days, the crew finds the cooler-than-normal temps to be just fine.

“It was very cold during the inauguration, and it was a factor,” says Kerrigan. “It was difficult for the crew to be in the elements for that period of time.”
