Harris Supports Tapeless Workflow at New Egyptian Sports Channel

Harris
Corp.
has installed an end-to-end broadcast solution at the facility of newly
launched Al-Ahly TV in Egyptian Media Production
City near Cairo. Spanning production, automation,
signal processing, routing, channel branding, graphics, and test and measurement,
the Harris ONE solution enables the entire tapeless workflow at the new sports
channel. Local systems integrator Systems Design was contracted to handle the
complete setup of the channel.

The core of
the Harris system comprises two NEXIO AMP advanced-media platforms, handling
both production and transmission, and ADC playout automation, which provides
automated content management and program playout, as well as control of a full
range of devices, including routing, branding, and graphics products. The Harris
servers and automation offer seamless integration with Apple Final Cut Pro,
enabling on-SAN editing in the production domain.

“Al-Ahly TV
chose to work with Harris because the company is able to provide an end-to-end
solution to address the many challenges that arise with the setup of a new TV
channel,” says Ahmed Gamal, managing director of Systems Design. “They were
particularly happy with the reliability and expandability of the NEXIO AMP
servers, as well as the way the system integrates with Apple Final Cut Pro for
direct disc editing.”

Incoming
feeds at the Al-Ahly broadcast facility are managed by the Harris X75
all-in-one processor, and the system is supported by two Harris SDI routers,
one located in the studio and the other in the master-control room. Branding
and graphics are handled by a Harris IconLogo on-air channel-branding system
and Harris Inscriber RTX custom on-air graphics platform. Rounding out the system
are Videotek test and measurement equipment, a master-timing generator, sync-generation equipment and clocks, and a GPS receiver — all from the Harris
product portfolio.

“Harris
specializes in providing broadcasters tailored, fully integrated, end-to-end
solutions to fit their requirements, and this installation is the latest
demonstration of the traction our singular approach is gaining in this region,” says Richard Scott, VP for Europe, the Middle
East and Africa (EMEA) operations for Harris Broadcast
Communications. “In the case of Al-Ahly TV, we were able to support the
launch of the channel with a variety of technologies that not only work
seamlessly together but also integrate into the wider technical setup.”
