Mansion Mobile Meets Remote HD Demand With Grass Valley

Mobile Television is building a brand-new high-definition truck to meet
the increased need for HD production in the Midwest
and across the country and is equipping it with 11 new Grass Valley LDK 8000
Elite HD cameras and a fully loaded Kalypso HD Video Production Center.

purchase order is valued at more than $2 million.

Of the 11
LDK 8000 Elite WorldCam cameras, seven will be used for fixed positions in a
SuperXpander configuration with box-style lenses, while four will be set up as
handhelds to roam the various venues. Two 100x DIGISUPER Canon lenses are on board, along with five 86x lenses, three 22x lenses, and two 11x wide-angle lenses.

The Kalypso HD switcher
includes a 4-M/E panel and four auxiliary bus panels and is loaded with a variety
of options.

The new
53-foot expandable HD truck, set to debut at the NAB convention in Las Vegas in April, will
allow the company to produce twice as many live events, including
entertainment shows as well as sports production.

“We chose
the LDK 8000 Elite cameras and Kalypso HD switcher for their ability to capture
and manage events in all of the major HD formats [720p and 1080i] as well as
the cameras’ 24p mode [1080p/24],” says Dave Goodman, VP of engineering
for Mansion Mobile.

supporting productions shot in 24 frames per second, we’ve made this truck very
entertainment-friendly, though we’ll continue to produce sporting events as
well,” continues Goodman. “We initially thought that this type of equipment
with a 24p option would be prohibitively expensive, but the price and value
we’re getting from Grass
Valley is very attractive
to us for what we want to accomplish with this new truck. Now we’ll be able to
grow our business and compete with anyone.”
The truck is wired for two graphics machines, and currently sports a Chyron Duet Hyper X2. A Solid State Logic C100 audio console is on board, along with 1 6-channel LSM, 1 6-channel RO, IP Director, a 4-channel spot box, and is wired for three more 6-channel EVS units. The truck currently has four tape machines on board, but is wired for 14.
The main production monitor wall has 130 sources, supported by an Evertz EQX router with monitor wall control.

For the
past two years, Mansion Mobile has been producing approximately 65 live sports
events a year — including games for Major League Baseball, the National
Football League, Big 12 college football, Major League Soccer, the National
Basketball Association (D-League), and Big-12 basketball — with a
standard-definition truck that features a Grass Valley Kalypso Duo
switcher. Mansion Mobile
has also supported Telemundo at Super Bowl XLII.

companies like Mansion Mobile continue to choose Grass
Valley equipment because it allows
them to service a wide variety of clients with the same systems,” says Grass
Valley SVP Jeff
Rosica. “The LDK 8000
Elite camera’s and Kalypso HD switcher’s ability to support multiple HD formats
brings Mansion Mobile a faster return on its investment and helps it to remain
competitive in the markets it serves.”

Diversified Systems — a premiere systems integrator of mobile facilities with offices in New York; San Jose, CA; Seattle; and Washington — designed the system and installed the equipment in the truck, on top of a body constructed by Calutech Mobile Solutions, in Hammond, IN.
