Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia Taps Monihan as SVP and GM

Comcast Sports Group President Jon Litner has named veteran sales executive Brian D. Monihan as senior vice president and general manager of Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, the home of Philadelphia’s most in-depth sports coverage.

Monihan will be responsible for all day-to-day operations for the network and begins his new position on March 9, reporting to Litner. For the past eight years, Monihan has led an integrated sales force responsible for sponsorship sales for Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers, and The Wachovia Center and Spectrum as VP of advertising sales for Comcast-Spectacor. He previously held senior-level sales positions with WPHL-TV Philadelphia and MMT Television Sales and with SelTel in New York.

Monihan said, “Comcast SportsNet has been the established home for in-depth local sports coverage for well over a decade, serving an audience of passionate Philadelphia sports fans. I’m excited for this opportunity to build on that leadership position and use emerging technologies to reach fans in new ways and extend our brand.

Litner added, “Brian is an exceptional media executive with over 10 years of experience in the Philadelphia community. He has led sales for Comcast SportsNet, the teams, and the arenas, and his success has helped our network grow. I am confident that his talent and insight into the Philadelphia sports community will help us serve our passionate audience with compelling coverage.”

Monihan, 48, replaces Stephanie Smith, who was named Comcast Sports Group senior vice president of marketing solutions late last year. He is a 1983 graduate of Boston College and resides in Moorestown, NJ, with his wife and four children.
