Algogear Video Delay Card Heads North for Extreme Fighting

Quebec-based Television Quatre Saisons (TQS) has chosen the Algogear Video Line Delay (VLD) solution for its Extreme Fighting program that air on April 1. TQS selected the Algogear VLD-1002-MD for its advanced video delay capabilities, ease-of-use and flexibility. TQS needed a flexible solution that would enable them to easily adjust the audio delay as well as the video delay.

“We expect our upcoming Extreme Fighting program to be very popular,” says Patrice Lussier, Technical Director, of TQS. “We are receiving our feed from a downlink satellite (Galaxy 28) in English, and we need Algogear to delay the audio and video by five to 10 seconds to allow live audio translation to French to for our French speaking viewers. Other card manufacturers we evaluated can’t easily offer this amount of delay on HD. We would have had to cascade many cards together in order to achieve the same result we are getting with one Algogear VLD card.”

The Algogear VLD-1002-MD Video Line Delay is designed for delay applications in both standard- and high-definition (SD/HD) SDI environments on up to two channels, and supports all popular SD and HD video formats. Delay programming can be added in time units (seconds) or video units (pixels, lines or frames). The configurable 10-second delay can be shared between two channels. All 10 seconds can be used on one channel or shared between two channels in one-frame increments.

With the openGear Dashboard Web interface, TQS is able to access the cards remotely to allow quick and easy access to adjust the timing of the delay from a laptop, rather than from the card edge. The openGear Dashboard Web-based software is well suited for remote applications. Dedicated output also allows for easy switching between live feed and delayed output.

Through Algolith’s “One Card, One Price, More Choices” program, Algogear’s FPGA-based cards are reconfigurable providing TQS the flexibility to repurpose their cards as their needs change over time, at no additional cost. TQS has the option of repurposing their current cards to any other of Algogear’s video processing solutions, including format conversion, signal processing and sync and delay, and more.
