DELTACAST To Unveil Virtual Advertising Capabilities at NAB

By Carolyn Braff

DELTACAST, a provider of video boards and broadcast applications, will demonstrate the new virtual advertising capabilities of its DELTA-sport system at next week’s NAB show. The sensor-free system, based on image processing, offers real-time chroma keying and virtual advertising capabilities in full HD or SD, allowing broadcasters to customize their message to specific broadcast audiences.

“We can show JumboTrons in different positions in the field, and we can show at least 12 different virtual jumbos in the stadium,” explains Marco Pezzin, sales manager for DELTACAST. “Within the virtual JumboTron, we can input another signal, a commentator, but also a feed from another stadium or a feed from another camera from the production team.”

The DELTA-sport system comes in a 19-in. rack with all equipment included: control box, track ball, XGA monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Besides virtual advertising capabilities, Version 6.1 enables slow-motion replay and 3D logos through one machine run by a single operator.

“The product works live, so, when there is an offside call, we need just five seconds to replay the action, because we have our own server dedicated to replay within the system,” Pezzin explains. “We produce our own slo-mo sequence, so we don’t need additional slow-motion servers. Our system is faster than our competitors’ because we need just one operator for graphics and replay.”

Within five seconds after the play, the DELTA-sport system allows the operator to replay the action to show an animated circle for free kicks, distance to the goal, and velocity of the ball; animated virtual advertising can even be added to the offside-line overlay.

Also on display at NAB will be the DELTA-stat system for customized real-time on-air 3D graphics. “It’s a complete solution dedicated to companies who don’t want to spend too much money,” Pezzin says. “We provide both hardware and software and customize the graphics charts, so they can overlay different information like team statistics, substitutions, etc.”

The system consists of a PC, a DELTACAST board, and a custom graphical user interface (GUI) to automate the appearance of timers, stats, and animations. DELTA-stat HD manages all the graphics to overlay during the game and is HD/SD-switchable.

DELTACAST currently works with a host of European clients, including Setanta Sports (UK and Scotland), Fox Sports (Australia), Sky Italia (Italy), Kanal D and Antena 1 (Romania), Sport+ (Portugal), France Television (France), and Belgacom TV, RTL-TVI, VRT, and Be tv (Belgium).
