San Diego Crew Classic Embraces Aerial Video Systems’ Cineflex Gyro-Stabilized Camera

The producers of the 36th Annual San Diego Crew Classic added a new production dimension this year with Aerial Video System’s Cineflex HD gyro-stabilized camera system.

AVS manufactured a customized bracket to mount the inverted Cineflex on a pontoon boat and transmitted the pictures via a Link 1500 HD/SD microwave system. The gyro-stabilized system proved to be the perfect solution for the sometimes bumpy bay conditions. “The picture quality blew our socks off,” said Michel Pithey, producer of the San Diego Crew Classic.

AVS also provided an additional on-the-water RF camera system and boat based wireless audio talent systems to capture all 90 crew races over a two-day period. The San Diego Crew Classic is held in Mission Bay, which is also the home of Sea World. The Crew Classic will air on ESPNU during the month of May.

The two AVS owned Cineflex systems have been steadily booked in the air for Monday Night Football, BCS Bowl games, Ice Road Truckers, Deadliest Catch and National Geographic specials. On land, AVS developed a specialized vehicle mount for the Cineflex to provide rail camera coverage for horse
