Avid Busy at NAB

Avid made several announcements at NAB: The company debuted version 5.2 of its Avid Deko 3000 on-air graphics package; qualified Apple Final Cut Pro editing solutions to run on Avid Unity MediaNetwork and ISIS shared-storage systems; unveiled several new integrations with third parties; introduced flexible support programs for its audio and video customers; and unveiled a new brand identity.

Version 5.2 of Avid Deko 3000 enables users to import and play back 3-D models and animations from applications such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Softimage 7.5, and MAXON CINEMA 4D. It will be available via Avid’s download center in June.

Following the integration with Final Cut Pro, postproduction facilities, broadcasters, and other media content-creation organizations using the Apple software can now take advantage of the shared-storage and collaborative-workflow capabilities of Avid Unity and ISIS, as well as simultaneously running Avid and Final Cut Pro editing solutions on the same shared-storage system.

Omneon, Panasonic, Sony, and RED are among companies that will demonstrate new workflow integrations with Avid at NAB.

Avid’s new support programs are: Standard Support, which offers assisted phone support during standard business hours, 24×7 access to Avid’s online self-help center and community forums (including the knowledge base), and regular software updates; Priority Support, which adds access to expedited replacement materials and accelerated support response during standard business hours; Uptime Support, which includes priority queuing, around-the-clock access to assisted support, and rapid response to critical issues; and Enterprise Support, the highest level of coverage, which provides a dedicated Avid support team.

Finally, Avid’s new brand identity features “a new logo composed of simple geometric shapes derived from the buttons, icons, and markers that consumers and professionals recognize as fundamental to the digital audio and video solutions they use every day to enable their creativity,” the company says.
