Adtec Debuts Encoders for Contribution, Distribution, Studio Use

By Adam Goldberg

Adtec (Booth SL8220) introduced the mediaHub-HD 422 MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC HD and the edje 5110-RM MPEG-2 SD encoders for contribution, distribution, and studio applications.

“Our strategy is quite simple,” says President Kevin Ancelin. “At an amazing value, deliver a product with legendary Adtec reliability for the most demanding contribution applications. Make it easy to use, intuitive, automatic, and guarantee it works with every IRD.”

The mediaHub-HD 422 supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC in both 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 formats with MPEG audio and Dolby AC-3 encoding and includes a built-in confidence decoder, eliminating the need for external decoders in the field. It also includes a standard Sony nine-pin serial interface, in either controller or recorder mode allowing it to control a tape device or be controlled by a non-linear editing system.

The mediaHub encoder offers onboard storage capable of encoding and storing content for later, scheduled playout.

The edje 5110-RM supports MPEG-2 SD 4:2:0 and 4:2:0 formats at up to 50 Mbps 4:2:2 for standard-definition contribution applications, with ASI and Gigabit Ethernet output, and will also directly output an MPEG-2 IP Multicast.

Both devices are controlled either by front-panel controls or remotely via standard Web browser. Both encoders are available now. The mediaHub-HD 422 is priced between $20,000 and $30,000, depending on options. The edje 5110-RM is priced at $5,000.
