Telairity Intros HD Encoders for ENG

By Adam Goldberg

Telairity (Booth SU10202) introduced MPEG-4 AVC HD encoders specially designed for ENG and field content acquisition — with a specific configuration airborne application — and a single or multichannel MPEG-4 AVC SD for low-latency, low-bandwidth applications.

“We designed our news aviation encoder from the ground up to deliver the best possible aerial transmission,” says President Howard Sachs. “We listened to news operations engineers who demanded a system that virtually eliminates unnecessary signal fadeout, is built to withstand rigorous aviation use, and is easy to use. Our new unit does that and more.”

The BC8100 Series is a MPEG-4 AVC HD encoding system for news helicopters that minimizes the length of transmission disruption caused by transmission errors. Each frame is encoded as four separate, independent areas, allowing receivers to recover from transmission dropouts faster. The BC8100 series is optimized for low-delay, low-bandwidth applications with 400-ms total end-to-end latency.

The BE9100 series are MPEG-4 AVC SD encoders for broadcasting and VoIP with good performance as low as 500 Kbps, with one, two, or four channels per 1RU chassis.

Both Telairity encodings use proprietary Telairity video-processing silicon and Telairity-developed software, enabling full operation just 2 sec. after power-on.

Both devices are available now. Price of the BE9100 single-channel SD encoder starts at $9,500; the BC8100, at $24,500. A version of the BC8100 for use on the ground is available starting at $19,500.
