EEG Debuts Comprehensive VANC Data Monitor

By Adam Goldberg

EEG (Booth SL2805) announced the DE285, a comprehensive VANC data monitor for HD-SDI and SD-SDI, allowing operations monitoring of all forms of CEA-608 and CEA-708 captions, XDS, V-chip data, Active Format Description, Bar Data, and, optionally, embedded audio.

“We believe that the EEG DE285 stands alone when it comes to overlaying the data on a full-resolution HD signal. In fact, the DE285 can replace three monitoring tools in many setups: it brings together in one system a caption decoder with monitor, a graphical audio display and onscreen indication of VANC data services, and a Web application for more-detailed parsing of VANC data,” says President Phil McLaughlin.

The monitor includes on-screen overlay of the various VANC data, indicating the different caption services included in the signal, V-chip rating, AFD, and Bar Data all continuously displayed for live monitoring. It also includes a caption decoder, displaying on-screen the included captions as seen by consumers. Notably, it includes both a CEA-608 caption decoder and a native CEA-708 caption decoder, allowing monitoring of all of the different captions and caption services delivered to the viewer. An option adds monitoring of embedded audio and an eight-channel on-screen audio-level monitor.

The DE285 also provides a convenient Web interface, which allows a user to examine the raw VANC data and shows statistics on frequency of the various VANC elements.

It is designed for fan-less quiet operation, dissipating only 8 W. It is available now, starting at $2,550.
