Sound Devices Introduces 788T-SSD Digital Recorder

Sound Devices introduced its 788T-SSD Digital Recorder at the NAB Show. Based on its model 788T, the 788T-SSD includes a factory-supplied 256-GB solid-state hard drive, which improves performance in the field. The new model also features enhanced data storage and transfer speed while improving its durability to be nearly impervious to shock. The inclusion of an internal 256-GB solid-state drive (SSD) in the 788T-SSD gives it the ability to record more than 60 hours of uncompressed, 24-bit, eight-track audio to solid-state medium.

The SSD used in the 788T-SSD enhances data transfer thanks to its increased transfer speed. The high-performance SSD medium in the 788T-SSD has faster read and write speeds than the 160-GB hard drive in the standard 788T. Like the 788T, the 788T-SSD is equipped with eight full-featured microphone inputs and 12 tracks of recording. In a stainless steel and aluminum chassis weighing less than 4 lb. and roughly the size of a hardcover novel, the 788T accommodates individual controls and connectors for each of its eight inputs, plus numerous additional I/O and data connections.

A related product is the new CL-2 Boom Pole Remote Fader for the 788T digital audio recorder. The CL-2 remote control and fader accessory for the 788T straps directly to a microphone boom pole. Connecting to the 788T’s proprietary C.Link (Control Link) port, the CL-2 offers a single, 60-mm fader that can be programmed to control any input or track on the 788T. There is also a pair of two-position switches on the remote-control unit that can be programmed to operate several critical functions on the 788T, including remote record activation. The C.Link port also acts as the power supply for the CL-2. The CL-2 is scheduled for availability in June 2009.
