Fairlight Xyenrgi System Powers MoFo Productions

Damian Del Borrello, head of MoFo Productions, describes himself as a ‘tech geek’, who demands as much from his studio equipment as his clients demand from him. With this philosophy in mind, he has chosen to install a Fairlight Xynergi Media Production Centre at his facility in Perth because it offers an elegant and complete solution to all his audio production needs.

“Being able to deliver mixes for approval and insert audio directly from FTP sites, via VSR, straight from the controller, is already making a huge difference to my workflow,” Del Borrello says. “Thanks to Fairlight, the market finally has a truly complete Digital Audio Workstation, with a unified ingest/delivery system – and HD video.”

Established in 2006, MoFo Productions offers a full range of sound production and design services, in post production and music. The company operates out of Hamdon Sound Studios (Perth’s largest privately owned audio facility), where it occupies ‘The Mezz’, a small, versatile room that is used for everything from sound editing, ADR and MIDI programming, to mixing and mastering. From here, MoFo Productions provides creative audio solutions for clients working on long and short form TV and film projects, as well as independent music and corporate projects.

MoFo Productions’ Xynergi MPC was installed this month and as a long-time Fairlight user, Damian Del Borrello is already enjoying a happy co-existence with his new equipment.

“The first system I used professionally was a Fairlight DSP 8 track (with NLV), an awesome, integrated system that, in my opinion, is still a better hard drive recorder than most ‘modern’ systems on the market,” he says. “Since then, I’ve used an MFX 3 Plus, QDC Fame and a CC-1 Dream Station – all still in operation at Hamdon Studios. What strikes me most about Fairlight equipment is the focus each product has on operator ergonomics and a streamlined workflow. Fairlight’s CC-1 engine gives the operator a massive advantage, both in terms of processing power and integration. This creates a situation where turnaround times are slashed and creativity is un-muzzled.”

The Xynergi Media Production Centre features the Xynergi controller, a desktop user interface that allows engineers to access all features and functions of the Fairlight CC-1, as well as commonly used Windows applications.

A Xynergi system can be specified as a controller-only system or – as in the case of MoFo Productions – delivered with a Xynergi 12 fader sidecar that can be standalone or sunk into custom furniture to provide an integrated working environment harmonious with the studio’s aesthetics.

“I’m really delighted with my Xynergi MPC system,” Del Borrello adds. “The digital patch bay is one of the most flexible systems I’ve seen. Being able to rewire audio out of Ableton Live means I have access to great effects and a MIDI sequencer, which is an important part of my business.”
