Grass Valley Infinity Boards the USS Enterprise

Time-Slice Films used Grass Valley’s Infinity Digital Media Camcorder for an HD green-screen shot placing comedian Justin Lee Collins onto the bridge of the USS Enterprise for So Television’s Bring Back Star Trek, which aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom last month.

Rather than building an actual set, So had Time-Slice do it in CGI, and the Infinity’s codecs allowed Time-Slice to choose to capture 10-bit 4:2:2 HD video at 1080i.

After the files were recorded to a REV PRO disk, Time-Slice transcoded them using Cineform’s NeoHD ReMaster application, which converted the content from JPEG2K to ProRes 4:2:2 files. The footage was then immediately available to postproduction tool Adobe After Effects at the highest resolution and in the best color space.
