Thunder Taps Daktronics for Ford Center Displays

Daktronics will design, manufacture, and install an integrated scoring and video display for the Ford Center, home of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, by the start of the league’s 2009-10 season.

The company says 10 displays will make up the heart of the center-hung display, presenting high-resolution live video, replays, and statistical information. Two of the displays are tilted video panels, with 6-millimeter center-to-center pixel spacing, on the bottom of the center-hung display, which will provide video and information to fans sitting courtside and in other lower seating areas.

And an LED-ring display will be located on top of the center-hung display, capable of providing game-in-progress information, statistics, sponsor promotions, cropped video clips, animations, graphics, and advertisements.

“Our goal is to take as many steps as possible to improve the game experience for our fans,” Thunder senior vice president for ticket sales and services Brian Byrnes said in a prepared statement. “The addition of this high-quality scoreboard is just one of the many amenities we are improving to accomplish that goal. The high quality video panels will provide higher resolution, which means sharper, clearer images and enhanced viewing for every seat in the house.”
