New Intelsat Satellites to Bolster Asia-Pacific Region

Fixed-satellite-services provider Intelsat expects to launch 11 satellites between now and the end of 2012, five of which will provide new or replacement capacity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The company says the Asia-Pacific plans include the acceleration of replacement satellites for two core roles and one new satellite that increases capacity for media and networking customers, as well as addressing defense-related opportunities in the region.

Intelsat 17 will be located at 66 degrees east; Intelsat 18 at 180 degrees east; Intelsat 19 at 166 degrees east; Intelsat 20—which will replace Intelsat 10 and Intelsat 7—at 68.5 degrees east; and Intelsat 22 at 72 degrees east.
