FSN Pittsburgh Producer Suspended for Failure to Show Replay
Story Highlights
A long-time Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh hockey producer has been suspended indefinitely for not quickly showing a replay that prevented a short-handed goal from being awarded to the Philadelphia Flyers against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Jan. 7 game.
The play occurred when Flyers forward Simon Gagne’s shot appeared to cross the goal line during the second period of the Flyers’ 7-4 victory. However, the on-ice officials did not signal goal and TV replays provided to NHL officials in Toronto were inconclusive.
According to TV News Check, producer Lowell MacDonald Jr. did not provide a replay to officials from the overhead camera angle that showed the puck clearly crossing the goal line. Just moments after play resumed, FSN Pittsburgh aired the overhead replay, but a call cannot be reversed once play has started again.
MacDonald Jr. is a one-time lead hockey producer for ESPN and son of former Penguins forward Lowell MacDonald.
