IOC May Hold Off On Bidding for 2014, 2016 Games
Story Highlights
The International Olympic Committee is seriously considering delaying the bidding for the 2014 and 2016 Games until next year due to the major broadcasters’ continued struggles as a result of a shaky advertising market.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the IOC had planned to sell the television rights this spring following the 2010 Vancouver Games. However, the organization may now push it off until next year, fearing that networks will be unable to reserve the necessary funds for a bidding war.
The Journal also reports that the NCAA’s request for proposals for a new long-term deal to broadcast their post-season men’s basketball tournament has not generated as much interest as expected.
