NASCAR Speedway Capacities Shrink as Attendance Drops
Story Highlights
As attendance for NASCAR races continues to drop, superspeedways from around the country have begun to reduce their capacities. Among the biggest reductions are Daytona International Speedway (168,000 to 146,000) and Phoenix International Raceway, which dropped by 20,000 seats.
According to USA Today, attendance was down or even with the year before at nearly ever Sprint Cup race during the 2009 season.
Several speedways have used the extra space to widen seats and allow fans that actually do attend Sprint Cup races to be more comfortable at the raceway.
