Tennessee Church Invests in Ross Video SoftMetal Server

Brentwood Baptist Church has invested in a Ross Video SoftMetal Video Server for Hudson Hall, a new 1000 seat auditorium and venue on campus in Brentwood, TN.

Brentwood Baptist Church wanted to give their attendees a different church experience using live worship with playback of the pastor from the sanctuary on the Hudson Hall stage using a 21’ wide screen. The central piece of broadcast equipment required was a video server, which could time-shift the HD-SDI content dynamically by 10 minutes or less a week. They wanted a unit capable of 2 channels of ingest and 2 channels of playout within the same box.

“We were on a hunt for a video server capable of time-shift,” says John Dyer, Media Director, Brentwood Baptist Church. “After renting various servers in the spring of 2009 and being disappointed with them all, we contacted systems integrator Mankin Media Systems who pointed us in the right direction of the Ross SoftMetal Video Server.”
On air January 2009, Brentwood Baptist Church records their IMAG SD feed and their HD center camera lockoff from the sanctuary on the SoftMetal Video Server, then time-shifts the playback with the TDIR function to Hudson Hall.

“After John mentioned his parameters, we knew their facility needed a budget-friendly broadcast quality 4-channel server with proven performance which would also be easy for volunteers to use,” said Ben Mankin, President, Mankin Media Systems. “The SoftMetal Video Server was a perfect fit for their application.”
