NAB Preview: Orad PlayMaker Server Delivers for 3D Productions, Super Slow Motion Needs

Orad will hit the NAB show with some new features for the PlayMaker sport server replay system, including support for super slow motion and 3D stereoscopic productions via six channels of input and preview/program outputs or two program outputs from a compact 3U chassis.

PlayMaker can ingest 6 cameras, or combine a super slow motion camera with three additional cameras.  Another unique configuration enables the ingest of two super slow motion cameras on one server.

Each PlayMaker server can be controlled by one or two separate controllers, each assigned with its own output while sharing the same clips and playlist database. And for 3D stereoscopic productions, PlayMaker can offer three 3D stereo ingests and 1 stereo output with all of PlayMaker’s advanced smart controller capabilities.

The new capabilities build on PlayMaker’s other features, including Motion JPEG2000 ingest, synchronized slow motion and super slow motion replay, and editing tools. PlayMaker’s disk capacity provides more than 60 hours in HD (at 100mbps) and more than 120 hours in SD mode (at 50mbps). And with RAID 6 configuration, dual power supply and Linux operating system, PlayMaker has the reliability needed to accommodate the harsh outdoor production environment.

Also high on Orad’s list at NAB is Blend, a channel-in-a-box that combines video playback and real-time graphics playout in the same system.

In addition, Orad will roll out new versions of its flagship products, including several 3D-minded ones. The first is Stereographics, which renders stereo graphics in real time and displays them over the stereo image. The broadcaster has full control over the depth dimension as well as the interaxial (eye separation) and convergence. A single-box solution that can generate side-by-side or separate left-right signals in either 720p or 1080i, Stereographics can use existing 3D graphics, comes with two linear keyers to allow overlaying of graphics, maintains existing workflow, and allows 3D preview on a regular monitor. Also on display will be Interact interactive graphics, Morpho 3D character generator, Maestro news-graphics platform, 3DPlay automated promo and channel-branding system, and Motion Video Play (MVP) sport-enhancement platform.
