Mira Follows Up Vancouver Gold with Oscar Party

After spending the month of February covering the Alpine Skiing events of the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games on the mountainside of Whistler, BC, Mira Mobile Television’s HD unit M9 headed straight for Hollywood to work the Academy Awards.

Local owned and operated ABC station KABC-TV, Los Angeles brought MIRA M-9HD to Hollywood, California for its annual pre- and post-event coverage of the Oscars’ Red Carpet festivities.  Situated behind the historic Disney-owned El Capitan Theatre, MIRA M9HD, paired with Mira’s B2 unit, created a custom tailored production environment for KABC-TV’s team headed by Technical Manager C. Park Seward.

“The KABC Academy Awards shows are the biggest we do all year. A lot is riding on a successful show,” says Seward.   “It’s great to have faith in a company and mobile unit.  I had no doubt that everything would work and I’d have the backup of the entire company.  Our faith in Mira Mobile was rewarded.”

A total of three separate shows were produced over two days involving multiple on-camera positions outside the Kodak Theatre, including one on-camera location atop the neon marquee of the El Capitan itself.  The KABC-produced On the Red Carpet shows were carried by several ABC stations and the Disney Channel as well as internationally.

“I believe that one of the marks of a good facilities provider is the ability to go from a high powered sporting event, right into a major entertainment event without missing a beat,” says Frank Coll, Mira’s Director of Business Development. “M9HD and its engineering team did just that with these events.”
