Austrians Tap T-Vips For World Cup Transmission Needs

T-VIPS has been chosen by ORS to deliver live HD TV to Austria’s terrestrial viewers in Vienna via its CP560 DVB-T2 gateway. This commercial trial will be live in time for terrestrial viewers to enjoy the World Cup finals in HD.

The CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway provides a central point of control for the DVB-T2 network, enabling ORS to take advantage of the more efficient spectrum utilization promised by next-generation terrestrial broadcasting. The CP560 utilises the advanced processing capabilities of the cProcessor family to adapt the transport stream into the DVB-T2 Modulator Interface format. The CP560 also enables the DVB-T2 Modulator Interface to control the modulator parameters and provides the accurate timing and rate control required for SFN (single frequency network) operation. The bandwidth efficiencies enabled by DVB-T2 allows ORS to improve video quality and to launch additional SD and HD channels.

“We chose the T-VIPS CP560 because of its advanced technology and based our positive experience of 100% fault-free operation with the company’s other DVB-T products. We know we can trust T-VIPS to provide us with the robust and reliable solutions we need for the launch of Austria’s HD terrestrial services,” says Norbert Grill, CTO, ORS. “I’m excited that Austria’s terrestrial viewers will be able to watch the World Cup in HD and that T-VIPS is once again helping us to provide our viewers with the best possible TV experience.”

CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway functionality includes DVB-T2 pre-processing; centralized control of DVB-T2 modulators; synchronization for SFN networks; and access to the advanced features and bitrate advantages of DVB-T2.

“I’m delighted that we are playing a central role in ORS’ provision of HD terrestrial TV in Vienna,” says Johnny Dolvik, CEO, T-VIPS. “The planned project demonstrates our close partnership with ORS and builds upon our DVB-T solutions deployed since 2007. It is by listening to our customers that we can continue to provide them with cutting-edge solutions. We have supplied ORS with unique DTT solutions since early 2007 and now three years later we are enabling the next wave of development with the coverage of the 2010 World Cup in HD.”
